Melville is a great author. Walter Kirn is not. He’s a decent writer, sure, but great? Come on. Thumbsucker is hardly a masterpiece.

what bugs me is that no one here mentions the fact that this is based on a book written by a great author. his name is Walter Kirn. Walter Kirn. a great author who unfortunately has a couple book which has gone out of print. buy the book. watch the movie.
