this movie is related to a movie of roman polanski “The Coen brothers cite as a major influence for Barton Fink the Roman Polanski film Le locataire (1976). (Watching The Tenant, according to one writer, will give you a lot better idea of what’s in the mysterious kraft-paper-wrapped box in Barton Fink.)” Anyway, I would be very very grateful if someone can tell what’s the soundtrack of this movie? pleaseeee??? thank you very much

i loved this movie, it showed what a sham the entertainment buissnes is. im sure alot of writers strugle with this when they start out.

its about the mental and emotional struggle of artists and outsiders. i think you have to identify with barton’s character and his dilemma, otherwise it probably wont make sense to you.

    But what does it mean??

Seriously, I love the Coens, and I enjoyed the characters and quirkiness of this movie, but when it ended I was left feeling confused and a little unsatisfied. I honestly don’t get it, and I want to.

Though I’m partial to Fargo, No Country for Old Men, and Raising Arizona, this one’s definitely a classic, and one of their best.

The acting in this is impeccable, but two stand-outs. John Goodman and Michael Lerner.

I just finish watching this movie and…WOW! This movie belongs with the other greatest films of all time like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Network. It almost feels like a Edgar Allan Poe story being transfered into 1941 Hollywood. I think its better than Citizen Kane and There Will Be Blood combined!

How could the Academy give Michael Lerner a nomination for such a tiny part in this movie but didn’t give John Goodman the fucking AWARD, let alone a nomination?!

  24. NGS712 September 8, 2009 1:08 pm

Out of the films I’ve seen by the two, I can’t decide which is better, Fargo or Barton Fink.

Amazing film, had me thinking for days.

this is not weird or unusual. of course it has that “ilogical and strange”, typical of those guys like david lynch or antonioni, who try to be “artistic”, but now that kind of thing is only cliche, but there are a lot of people, intelectuals, art students, etc. who never get tired of that bullshit.

anyway Barton Fink is a very good movie, John Goodman is amazing, and it really gets you inside of its “weird” story. it is not artistically pretentious and stupid like a lynch or antonioni film.
